What I should already know.
 My older Jill cage has 4 levels.The bottom level is the litter box area.  I have a smaller corner box placed on the upper levels .  Well I was shocked to find that all of my older jills had no interest in using the litter boxes on the lower level today .  The upper levels were a mess with poo in every corner.  These girls have been litter trained for a very long time and I was dismayed by what I saw.  So I looked each one over carefully as I placed them in the play pen and started to clean up, all the while asking them why they felt the need to make such a mess. I was finished with the upper portion of the cage before I noticed that neither of the bottom boxes had been used. This had me  very confused.  While examine the lower level closer I saw that the ladder that you can use to section off the top of the cage from the bottom was still in the closed position. I had done that yesterday in an effort to keep Anna from running up my arms and play peek a boo in my hair while I was scooping litter.  No wonder they made such a mess they could not get the main litter boxes.  I am just glad that the food and water is in the upper section of the cage.  I am just red in the face about it, hear I am blaming my poor jills.  I am sure they are shaking their little heads at me wondering when I will learn that it is never the ferrets fault.
