CHARITY fundraisers are ferreting out supporters for a day at the races with a difference.

Visitors to Betws y Coed's charity fun day, on Sunday at St Mary's Church car park, will be encouraging visitors to the event to take part in a bizarre new sport - ferret racing.

A number of races are planned throughout the day where ferrets are raced though drain pipes. The first ferret to poke his head out at the other end of the pipe is the winner.

NCH Cymru fundraiser for North Wales Abigail Henderson said: "The usual fun day attractions like a bouncy castle, a coconut shy, face painting and Mr Alexander's Travelling Show will be available, but we are expecting quite a crowd to support the most unusual event of the day - the Ferret Races.

"Ferrets and drainpipes go together well and the ferrets seem to love being the centre of attention for the event.

This is one of the most off-beat fundraising ideas supporters have come up with, and it's bound to raise a few eyebrows on the day."

Abigail added: "Local farmers and residents of Betws y Coed, Llanrwst and the surrounding area are looking forward to the day out for their ferrets, who can not get enough of running down holes.
